Although Jenna Fischer has starred in multiple other roles, perhaps the one she is best known for to date is none other than that of Pam Beesly in The Office. Yet, as exceptional as her performance was in the role that had many (if not all) viewers hooked, this very role seems to have posed a barrier when she earned the opportunity to work with Matt LeBlanc.

As surprising as it may seem, the truth is that Fischer almost starred in the lead opposite the Friends alum in a sitcom. However, simply because fans couldn’t imagine her renowned character Pam marrying LeBlanc’s equally famous character Joey, the 50-year-old actress lost out on her chance to work with the 56-year-old heartthrob!

If you’re a child of the eighties, you grew up watching the great Kevin Nealon as the host of Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live. From 1986-1995, Nealon was one of the show’s most popular players, with probably his defining role (other than Weekend Update) being as Franz (opposite Dana Carvey’s Hans), one half of the Arnold Schwarzenegger-like body-building duo Hans and Franz. Since SNL, Nealon’s gone on to great success as a character actor, starring on Weeds opposite Mary-Louise Parker for 99 episodes while also being a regular on Man with a Plan. And regularly showing up in cameo roles opposite old pal Adam Sandler in many films.
It turns out that Nealon, in addition to his acting talents, is one heck of an artist, with him recently writing a book, “I Exaggerate My Brushes with Fame” (buy it here), which reveals his hand-drawn caricatures...

Editor’s note: Farah Bunch has worked as a makeup artist in film and television for more than 25 years. Her credits include Will & Grace, Man with a Plan and the Oscars. She is currently working on the reboot of Frasier for Paramount+.
Let’s start by saying that I, like the huge majority of my fellow crew members, support the WGA if they strike to get fair compensation. We below-the-line members would just like to be considered in the conversation. I believe what the writers are asking for is more than fair, but I know we will be the ones left in crippling debt after the smoke clears, with no celebration dance at the end for us.
There will be winners, but we are guaranteed to be losers.
WGA supported the IATSE strike that almost happened last year. However, in that strike, we weren’t fighting just for money.

Exclusive: Peacock is headed to Ancient Egypt with Cleo, a one-hour dramedy in development from writer Jessica Runck (Man With A Plan), Jane the Virgin developer/showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, TrillTV and CBS Studios, where Urman is under an overall deal.
Written by Runck, with Urman serving as as showrunner, Cleo revolves around Cleopatra, an overqualified young woman who is forced to hide her intelligence behind make-up, clothes and men to earn the respect she needs to hang on to her job: being queen of Egypt. A dramatic comedy set in ancient Egypt that proves not much has changed in two thousand years, Cleo shares the feminist take of Urman’s Peabody Award-winning Jane the Virgin.
Runck and Urman executive produce with Kaplan and Brian Morewitz for Kapital Entertainment, Wendi Trilling for TrillTV, along with Joanna Klein and Karen Forman. CBS Studios is the studio.

This review originally ran following the film’s world premiere at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.
Writer-director Andrew Semans’ deeply strange and truly traumatizing “Resurrection” has a lot in common with a typical stalker thriller. Rebecca Hall, no stranger to the sub-genre after “The Gift”, plays a successful executive at a pharmaceutical company, a single mother to a teenaged daughter, whose reality unravels when an abusive ex-husband (played by Tim Roth) unexpectedly re-enters her life.
There’s nothing that isn’t scary about that scenario, narratively familiar as it might be, and for a good, long portion of “Resurrection,” that’s all we need to know. Hall is a masterful performer, one of the best at conveying complex psychological trauma, and watching her confident persona crack at the mere sight of Roth at a conference, or 50 meters away at a department store, is an upsetting sight. We don’t need to know details of her pain.

For the past two years, comedy series celebrating their final seasons have cleaned up at the Primetime Emmy Awards. In 2019 it was Amazon Prime Video’s “Fleabag,” which, after being overlooked for its inaugural season, nabbed 11 noms. Just last year the Television Academy went even harder for Pop TV’s “Schitt’s Creek,” nominating it 15 times and awarding it six, including in comedy series and all of the major comedy acting races.
This year, for the 73rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards, there was an even bigger showing for HBO’s “Lovecraft Country,” which picked up 18 nominations overall, including in the drama series category and all four major acting categories, guest drama actor and drama writing. “Lovecraft” is a bit of a special case, in that it is a one-season wonder: it submitted in drama because it was originally expected to return, but the network announced that it would not just days after nominations-round voting closed.

For Jenna Fischer, playing “Pam” for nine seasons on The Office was apparently a blessing and a curse.
In the latest episode of her Office Ladies podcast, Fischer finally spilt the tea on why she was recast after shooting a pilot for Man with a Plan, a show headlined by Friends star Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey Tribbiani on that long-running sitcom.
According to Fischer, she lost the role as LeBlanc’s wife when test audiences couldn’t get past that they were watching Pam and Joey. They didn’t “believe Pam would marry Joey.”
Fischer claimed that network executives initially asked for “more scenes” with her. But the pilot and the focus group’s reaction sunk that opportunity.
“They said — this is a literal quote, they said, ‘I don’t believe Pam would marry Joey. The chemistry doesn’t work between these two,'” Fischer told her Office Ladies co-host Angela Kinsey.
