Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc is looking dapper as hell in this new look at "Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery," Rian Johnson's latest murder mystery that continues the adventures of the private detective after "Knives Out" and "Glass Onion." The topline instant takeaway is obviously that Blanc has much longer hair than he's had in the previous two films, and that new look could potentially signal a new attitude or maybe even a whole new worldview for this character. Could a shaggier-haired Blanc be a bit more laid back and bohemian this time around? Perhaps he's been hanging out with his pal Derol from "Glass Onion" in between movies and taken some life lessons from the amiable slacker.

Writer/director Rian Johnson has taken to social media to let us all know that filming has officially begun on his new film Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery – which, as you can glean from the title, is indeed the latest installment in the series of murder mysteries that Johnson began with Knives Out in 2019 and continued with Glass Onion (pictured above) in 2022. At the heart of these films is private investigator Benoit Blanc, played by Daniel Craig – and Johnson went ahead and shared a black and white image of Craig on set and in costume, bringing Benoit Blanc back to life on the first day of filming Wake Up Dead Man:

When the original Knives Out movie was released by Lionsgate in 2019, the whodunnit starring Daniel Craig as the southern P.E. Benoit Blanc, was either doomed to fail or become a smashing success. The latter happened, as the ensemble cast full of big names made Knives Out one of the best films of the year, ending up with numerous accolades and nominations, with many going so far as to claim that it had revived the whodunnit genre. The sequel, Glass Onion, was also well-received, but more because of its political and social messages than for the plot, which was more or less feeble and unworthy of the original. But, what is important is that Glass Onion also featured an ensemble cast, and it seems that the upcoming third movie, Wake Up Dead Man, will also follow in these footsteps.

Das Original: Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, und George Harrison in „The Beatles: Get Back“ (Credit: Apple Corps Ltd.)

The cast of actors set to play The Beatles across four Sam Mendes films has reportedly been set, and includes Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney.
We’ve known for a couple of months that Sam Mendes is set to produce four interconnected films based on The Beatles, perhaps the world’s most famous band in history.
All four films are to be released in the space of a year, with 2027 being the target. In a rather interesting approach, each film will be situated from a different band member’s point of view, meaning we’re getting Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison’s stories. McCartney and Starr have agreed full life story and music rights, and the families of Lennon and Harrison have done the same.
Considering that Mendes has got four films to get working on, we’d imagine he’s keen to get going. As such,...

My guest this week is Andrew Scott.
In this episode we dig into Scott’s early start in a cereal commercial and his job in a bizarre supermarket, along with the “empathy game” that is acting, and how it cured him of a childhood speech impediment.
Scott also reveals his profound grief at the recent passing of his beloved mother, the legacy of kindness she left him with and why she was “a total hero”.
In Netflix’s limited series Ripley, Scott plays the titular role of Tom Ripley, a scheming grifter set on inserting himself into the life of rich playboy Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn). Based on the novels by Patricia Highsmith, Anthony Minghella’s 1999 film version, The Talented Mr. Ripley, starred Matt Damon and Jude Law. Update: Andrew Scott, most recently seen in All Of Us Strangers and Netflix's Ripley, is also now confirmed by Variety as joining the cast.
Just last week, we learned the title of Rian Johnson's latest Knives Out mystery — Wake Up Dead Man. The writer/director didn't share any casting, but word has since arrived (initially via What's On Netflix and since confirmed by the trades) that the first two pieces of the ensemble around returning veteran Daniel Craig have been locked in: Challengers' Josh O'Connor and Priscilla's Cailee Spaeny.
Beyond that, the information is basically nil — we don't know, for example what sort of mystery the drawlin' detective Benoit Blanc (Craig) will be digging into this time, nor do we know exactly where (rumours have pointed to a least shooting in London).

Andrew Scott is the latest actor to join the growing ensemble of the next Knives Out movie Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. He joins a cast that already includes Josh O’Connor and Cailee Spaeny. Rian Johnson is returning to direct from a script he wrote. He will also produce the pic with his partner, Ram Bergman through T-Street Pictures.
Plot details are unknown. The most recent pic, Glass Onion, bowed in 2022, with Craig returning as the world-famous detective Benoit Blanc. The film premiered on Netflix after the streamer made a record-setting $450 million deal for the two sequels, with this being the third in the series.
The film is set to go into production next month and will be released sometime in 2025.
Scott is having himself a strong 12 months after his critically acclaimed work in Netflix’s Ripley, which is sure to have him in the mix this Emmy season.

It’s one of those odd April days in Los Angeles, the type that locals know well: Hours after noon, the sun still seems ambivalent about whether it wants to make itself known. An outsider wouldn’t think it possible for the gleaming capital of show business to feel so grayed out. But if you grew up on an island where colorless skies are the norm, it might feel familiar.
“It’s like, Will I? Won’t I?” the Irish actor Andrew Scott quips as he settles into his chair on the rooftop of the Edition Hotel in West Hollywood. It's been a decade since Cameron Diaz last took to our screens, playing the villainous Miss Hannigan in 2014's Jamie Foxx co-starring Annie. But now Diaz is back in action in, er, Back In Action, Netflix's buzzy new action comedy. The Charlie's Angels and Shrek actor stars alongside Foxx in the film, which sees the pair play suburban parents with a big secret: they used to be spies! Check out the first images from the film below:
Hailing from Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon – who's written this one alongside Brendan O’Brien (Bad Neighbours) – Back In Action follows Emily (Diaz) and Matt (Foxx), two seemingly average parents who used to be elite CIA agents. Years after giving up spycraft to start a family however, the couple's low-key suburban life is upended when their cover is blown and they find themselves dragged back into the world of espionage. Last summer, Paul Schrader was about to start shooting “Oh, Canada,” his adaptation of Russell Banks’ novel about a troubled artist taking stock of his life, when the major actors union went on strike. For a second, it looked like all that hard work, passion and planning might be for nothing — with performers on the picket lines and major studios holding out on their contract demands, it was hard to see how cameras would ever roll on the low-budget indie.
“Everything shut down,” said Brian Beckmann, the CFO and COO of Arclight Films, which is selling international rights to the film. “We were in this position where we had spent all this money and secured all this talent and we weren’t sure we could move forward until the strikes were over.”

Filmmaker Andrew Haigh’s follow up to the incredible All Of Us Strangers will reportedly be Belly Of The Beast – a true crime thriller set in 1980s New York.
Despite releasing back in January, there’s every chance that at the end of this year, writer-director Andrew Haigh’s All Of Us Strangers (pictured) will still hold the crown for film of 2024. At the very least it will be on lots of shortlists, and as such, interest has been running high over what Haigh would do next. Now that project has been revealed – a period drama-thriller called Belly Of The Beast – we’re very excited indeed.
According to Deadline, the project is headed to Cannes next week with the director and stars already attached. Given the acclaim surrounding Haigh’s last film and the involvement of both Colin Farrell and Ben Stiller, we’d imagine that this will be a popular package deal indeed.

“Sound of Metal” star Olivia Cooke, soon to be returning to “House of the Dragon” for its second season, and BAFTA winner Jamie Bell, recently seen in “All of Us Strangers,” are set to star in “Takes One to Know One.” The film is billed as an “unconventional and contemporary take on romance.”
The feature comes from Italian director Nathalie Biancheri, working from a 2022 Black List screenplay by WGA-nominated writer Brooke Baker. Production is due to commence in Italy later this year, with Cornerstone handling international sales and distribution and and launching sales at Cannes and co-repping the U.S. with CAA Media Finance.

Is one renaissance man about to take on another? Apparently so, as IndieWire has confirmed that Andrew Haigh has been tapped to helm a highly anticipated adaptation of Walter Isaacson’s lauded 2017 biography of Leonardo Da Vinci. Paramount had initially won the film rights when the book was first released and even cast the world’s 2nd most famous Leonardo, Di Caprio, in the lead role. Unfortunately, its version eventually went into turnaround allowing Universal to swoop in (perhaps with the use of Da Vinci’s ornithopter) and create a fresh package with Haigh. Initially it was announced that Christopher Hampton would be scripting the piece, but with Haigh now onboard, Universal looks to be giving him full creative oversight, perhaps in an effort to summon the spirit of Da Vinci himself.

Since the millennium, there is substantially less erotic content on our screens – with changing audience tastes and ‘intimacy coordinators’ to blame
The advent of explicit films such as Poor Things, Saltburn and All of Us Strangers has been heralded as marking a revival of sex on screen – in the face of a reported lack of interest from Gen Z audiences. However, a new report suggests that in fact the Hollywood sex scene is declining fast: there is almost 40% less sexual content in major films than there was at the start of the millennium.
Commissioned by the Economist from data analyst Stephen Follows, the report assembled data on the 250 highest-grossing films each year since 2000, and found movies released in 2023 had just over 60% of the erotic content found in the top 250 in 2000. Broken down by genre, the decline was steepest in action movies (a drop of approximately 70% over the same period) – while...

Universal Pictures has tapped renowned British filmmaker Andrew Haigh (All of Us Strangers) to write and direct a Leonardo da Vinci film based on Walter Isaacson’s bestselling 2017 biography of the artist, Deadline can confirm.
Based on thousands of pages from Da Vinci’s notebooks and new discoveries about his life and work, the biography looks to connect his art to his science, showing how Leonardo’s genius was based on skills we can improve in ourselves, such as passionate curiosity, careful observation, and an imagination so playful that it flirted with fantasy.
An icon of the Italian Renaissance, Da Vinci was not only a prolific painter but also a polymath excelling in various fields including science, engineering, and anatomy. His masterpieces, the “Mona Lisa,” and “The Last Supper” are among the most recognizable and influential works of art in history.
Christopher Hampton wrote a previous draft of the Da Vinci script.

Universal Pictures has found its director for the high-priority Leonardo da Vinci film. “All of Us Strangers” helmer Andrew Haigh has signed on to direct and adapt Walter Isaacson’s acclaimed biography of the Renaissance man.
Based on thousands of pages from Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks and new discoveries about his life and work, Isaacson’s book became one of the hottest literary properties when it hit the market in 2017. At the time, Universal was outbid by Paramount, which developed the project with Leonardo DiCaprio for years before putting it in turnaround. Universal quietly picked it up last year. The runaway bestseller connects da Vinci’s transcendent art, which includes the Mona Lisa painting hanging in the Louvre, to his trailblazing science — and shows how his genius was driven by an insatiable curiosity, careful observation and a whimsical imagination. Finally: All Of Us Strangers, starring Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal, is finally getting a UK physical media release.
Earlier this year, as Fox Searchlight’s Oscar-attracting films were slowly being confirmed for a physical media release, there was one notable exception. That’d be Andrew Haigh’s extraordinary movie All Of Us Strangers, a film that’d received huge – and richly deserved – acclaim on its release, but was entirely snubbed by the Oscars. It got some BAFTA recognition, but for this particular writer, the film’s the best of the last year or so. The Beekeeper included.
All Of Us Strangers has, following its theatrical release, ended up on the Disney+ streaming service. Yet the word was that there were no plans to put the movie out on DVD and Blu-ray too. That was the rumour anyway (although one or two industry insiders backed that up for us). Now though,...
