For months now, awards prognosticators across the interwebs have been lamenting the state of the Emmy’s Drama categories. No, not the Emmy Awards that already happened (let’s not get into all that again) but the one TV Academy members will vote on in a few weeks. After a strike-altered release calendar and the departure of daddy’s No. 1 boy, 2024 was destined to be a strange awards season. Seven of last year’s eight nominees for Best Drama Series are no longer in contention. None of the most recent Primetime Emmy winners are eligible. A new Best Director, Writer, Actor, Actress and more will be crowned. Yet in an often-repetitive TV awards cycle, the excitement typically felt for a fresh field has been tempered by this year’s lackluster yield.
That is, excitement was tempered until a few weeks ago, when a white knight golden samurai rode in to rescue the Emmys.

Game of Thrones was the biggest TV show ever back when it was running, and it still holds up really well today. Throughout the years since its premiere, many showrunners have attempted to make a “new Game of Thrones,” but no one succeeded… Except for the latest claimant that’s not only unanimously dubbed that but also just received a spreadsheet’s worth of compliments from Grrm himself.
George Martin Hates Book-to-Screen Adaptations
In his recent Not A Blog post, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire bashed the movie industry for its entitled approach to adapting books.
The celebrated writer got candid on how screenwriters and producers always try to make the stories they have to adapt “their own” and only end up butchering them in the vast majority of cases.

After being severely traumatized by all the deaths on Game of Thrones, viewers were reluctant to start another show in the same universe for fear of getting attached. Even in the first season, which told a backstory and showed how the characters became who they are, there were some pretty devastating death scenes.
As we move forward with an all-out war between Team Black and Team Green, the body count is expected to rise rapidly. Whether that will happen in season 2 or be pushed into the future depends on how the writers adapt the events of the novel. What has already been hinted at is where some of the characters will go.
How Does Daemon Targaryen Die?

Here in the USA, we tend to cling to certain stereotypes about our Canadian neighbors. That they’re exceptionally polite. That they’re obsessed with ice hockey. That they say the word “eh” a lot. Some of that may even be true. But there’s one cliché aboot — um, about — the Great White North that turns out to be demonstrably false: The place is much more diverse than you might think.
That’s one of the reasons THR has put together its first list of Canada’s most powerful women in entertainment, to showcase not just the female talent running TV and film sets across the border, but to celebrate the rainbow of identities that make up Canada’s film, TV and music industries. On these pages you’ll find Korean Canadians, Ukrainian Canadians, Canadians of Mohawk descent, even a First Nation Canadian who’s half-Jewish. What they all have in common,...

Fascinating fictional worlds and the magical creatures that inhabit them are a common topic for many fantasy projects. Even before Game of Thrones and Supernatural, at the very beginning of the 21st century, there was a series about a fairy tale universe that comes into contact with our reality.
Now, 24 years later, this project has (rightly) become a favorite of many fantasy fans, reminiscent of carefree childhood and the time when we still believed in magic. And that project is The 10th Kingdom.
What is The 10th Kingdom About?
A New York cafe waitress, Virginia, rescues a dog one day that turns out to be the enchanted Prince Wendell, who has fled to our world from the land of the Nine Kingdoms to escape his stepmother, the Evil Queen. The Prince is Snow White's grandson and the direct heir to the throne, but the Queen has her own plans.

Hannah Waddingham has made quite a name for herself since playing Septa Unella, aka the Shame Nun, in the fifth season of Game of Thrones. Despite having little dialogue, the actress made her acting prowess known by commanding the screen, and later went on to secure two Emmy wins for her performance as Rebecca Welton in Ted Lasso.
Moreover, her success hasn’t been limited to the small screen, as Waddingham recently appeared in The Fall Guy, and is now looking forward to making her Mission: Impossible debut. But despite being in top demand in Hollywood in recent years, her introduction to showbiz wasn’t pretty, as the actress recalled being shunned by many before making it big.

Everybody is waiting for summertime for various reasons. We all rely on these three short but shiny months to heal us from the troubles that have been with us the whole year. And summer 2024 is promising to be very rich in new releases!
Many of our beloved shows’ new seasons are going to be released this summer, and it only means one thing: put aside whatever you are watching now and get ready to dive back into the greatest stories you once followed.
Here are 5 shows we are already rewatching and so should you.
1. House of the Dragon
Season 2: Releasing June 16 on HBO
13 years ago, the world was hit by a storm called Game of Thrones. There was almost no one who hadn't at least watched an episode or two. The show was like nothing else on TV, killing off its central characters and providing the viewers with lots of violence and nudity.

What Do We Know About Dune Prophecy? More than you may think. With the second part of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction novel a critical and box office success, it is going to be several years before we see the next feature film in the series, Dune Messiah. Luckily, production on the small-screen prequel /spin-off was concurrent with Dune: Part Two which means before the end of the year we are going to return to the fictional realms of Arrakis, Geidi Prime, and more via Max.
While not much in the way of footage has made its way online, there have been quite a few reveals about Dune Prophecy, so let’s jump in and discuss.

Even though House of the Dragon is a prequel to Game of Thrones, and, based on the way Daenerys Targaryen started out it’s quite easy to predict the way the show will end, fans still believe there is an element of surprise to each twist and turn of the storyline.
Now that the show enters its second season, and both sides are getting ready for the war, the fans are left guessing the lengths each of the characters could go to in order to secure their place near the crown and remain as powerful as possible. The only issue is, for some characters season 2 seems to repeat the same story in a slightly different font.

“It is something that haunts all production designers; it’s something that requires a lot of hard work,” admits four-time Emmy-winning production designer Deborah Riley (“Game of Thrones”) about striving for authenticity and realism, ensuring the look and feel of a series never comes across as too staged or artificial. “It’s layers and layers and layers, and oftentimes it comes down to [for example] a set painter, who will just touch all of those props and touch up all of the walls, and just make sure they feel a little bit lived-in. You know, a bit of a layer of dust over everything helps,” Riley laughs during our recent webchat, adding that, “you’ve got to look at everything and squint slightly and add yourself. You never want anything to feel or look like a prop or dressing. It’s got to feel like someone to put it there for a reason.

Two decades and countless rewatches later, I'm still not sure if "Love, Actually" is a good Christmas movies or if it's just the most interesting one to talk about. If you've seen the movie — or even just been online around Christmastime in the past decade — you'll know all the familiar talking points. Fans can't believe that little kid ended up in "Game of Thrones," or that anyone could call Natalie fat. They think Laura Linney's character deserved better, but also, it's good to see a movie admitting that the holidays can be heartbreaking. The Colin Firth plot still makes romantics swoon (even though it has its faults), but Alan Rickman's character is a total snake.
Every subplot of Richard Curtis' ensemble film is worth talking about, but 21 years on, it seems clear that one gets discussed more than any other: the limply written love triangle between Andrew Lincoln's Mark,...

Remember Space Jam: Legacy? You probably don’t. It was an ill-advised sequel to 1996’s commercial trash art classic, Space Jam. In the original film, global icon Michael Jordan is sucked into a cartoon world where he must assemble a team of Looney Tunes to play an intergalactic game of basketball against a squad of goons to save the universe. Legacy saw the same plot revisited, subbing in LeBron James for Mj, except being released in 2021, merely showcasing the Looney Tunes would not suffice.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been known for its impeccable casting choices. There is little doubt that Marvel has seen a gross loss in quality in recent years, perhaps after the incessant success of Avengers: Endgame. However, things are certainly looking on the up, at least potentially, with a range of exciting projects set to be released in the coming time.
This, quite notably, includes the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, which has been allotted a release date of July 25, 2025, for the time being. Featuring a glut of stars such as Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, it seems as if another superstar of Indian origin, previously seen in CBS’s SuperGirl, Rahul Kohli, was also in the running for a major role.

Relationships are not the strongest suit when it comes to the morally grey characters in House of the Dragon. Still, we do come across couples who do manage to stand the test of time. The best example of this being Lord Colrys Velaryon and his wife Rhaenys. And it seems like their on-screen chemistry stems from real life, as seen in the latest House of the Dragon promo.

House of the Dragon’s second season is getting closer to its release date on Max, and the never-ending details about the upcoming installment give us all an even scarier feeling of anticipation than ever before.
The show’s season 2 will finally bring the viewers a long-awaited fight for the ultimate power between the Blacks and the Greens, and, given House of the Dragon’s showrunner’s latest revelations, the full-scale war will get to the level that only Game of Thrones and some Marvel flicks could reach so far.
Despite recent heavy criticism regarding its creative decisions, the MCU is still like nobody else when it comes to turning on-screen big battles into something extremely realistic. With no connection to Marvel whatsoever, Game of Thrones was also a decent game player when it was time to blow everyone away with epic fight scenes, and now it seems like the...

American films and television invariably brush up against the issue of language. Since these stories are made for mass appeal — and said mass is English-speaking audiences — the films will depict characters speaking English even if that shouldn't be the case. Take films set during Roman times like "Spartacus" or "Gladiator," which have dialogue spoken only in English, not Latin or even a closer modern stand-in like Italian.
Then there are films with characters from different countries, yet the audience hears them all speaking the same tongue. Some handle this more cleverly than others; in "The Hunt for Red October," the Soviet characters are first heard speaking Russian before a quick switch to English -- letting the audience know while they're hearing English, the characters are hearing Russian.
"Shōgun," which recently went from mini-series to a two-season renewal, makes no attempt to hold its audience's hand. Set in 1600 Japan, Lord Yoshii...

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie‘s 2005 hit movie has finally been adapted into a TV show after several stop-start attempts. Created by Donald Glover and his “Atlanta” colleague Francesca Sloane, the series follows two secret agents who go undercover as a married couple in order to complete missions for a mysterious organization.
Glover stars as one half of the duo while “Pen15” star/creator Maya Erskine features as the other. Glover is reliably excellent as John Smith but it’s Erskine, as Jane Smith, who steals the show, as noted by critics.
Kristen Baldwin (Entertainment Weekly) stated: “Erskine — so wonderfully, uninhibitedly awkward in ‘PEN15’ — brings a riveting stillness to Jane. Her character’s inscrutable mien keeps John and the audience a little off-balance, though Erskine reveals glimmers of emotional desolation in Jane’s steady gaze.”
Aaron Pruner (The Wrap) observed: “Erskine, who many will recognize as the brace-faced 13-year old in Hulu comedy “PEN15,...

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the next Games of Thrones spinoff, is coming together, and George R.R. Martin took to his blog to tease that it will have a “much different tone” from the previous shows.
“The Hedge Knight will be a lot shorter than Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, with a much different tone… but it’s still Westeros, so no one is truly safe,” Martin wrote. “I hope to visit the shoot come July, when I swing by Belfast on my way to the worldcon in Glasgow. The show will make its debut next year… and if it does well, The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight will follow. By which time I hope to have finished some more Dunk & Egg stories.“

“The Good Wife” introduced Carrie Preston‘s Elsbeth Tascioni back in 2010. She was so popular with fans that she also featured in the spin-off show “The Good Fight.” Now Preston and Elsbeth take center stage in the brand new spin-off “Elsbeth.”
CBS’ hit drama series follows Elsbeth as she carries out work as an unconventional attorney and helps the NYPD catch criminals with her astute observations. Preston was excellent in her guest role in “The Good Wife” but she is even better here as the main course, as critics have noted.
Ben Travers (Indie Wire) observed: “Preston knows the exact pitch at which to play Elsbeth. Never grating yet always pesky, her unrelenting positivity (and general relentlessness) would undoubtedly get old, fast, in real life. Cops and criminals alike are exhausted by her, but audiences can more easily appreciate her dogged demeanor because a) we know she’s on the right track,...

While Game of Thrones saw the most online backlash for its biggest slip in the form of a Starbucks cup in one of the final season’s scenes (which went hilariously viral), this show isn’t by far the worst immersion violator. We’re sorry to be pointing fingers but dear Bridgerton fans, your favorite period drama has been going unpunished for its crimes against historical accuracy for way too long!
Bridgerton Girls Are Way Ahead of Their Time
The one thing that’s the most immersion-breaking and yet happens in every single episode of Bridgerton is its female characters’ looks. The TV show is set in the early 1800s, but the Bridgerton girls are not aware of that, floating around with highlights, contour, and even false eyelashes. Falsies in the 1800s, for crying out loud!
But falsies aside, there was an even more blatant and in-the-face issue just now...

We've all experienced those moments of crescendo in the movies.
Scenes that pull on your gut and fill it with butterflies are nothing new, especially in the theater, with its massive screen and booming sound.
But whoever said that crescendo moments are reserved for the big screen only?
The small screen is rife with scenes that pull on your gut and fill it with butterflies (usually around the time you really have to go to the bathroom and can't bring yourself to press pause).
Moments like the infamous scene where Darth Vader discontinued Luke's hand and told him, "I'm your daddy," are found across the fruited plains of streaming entertainment.
Even better, you don't have to go looking for them because we did the hard work (it was actually pretty easy and fun) for you and rounded up some of these incredible TV moments that will have you waxing poetic...

The 70s class of filmmakers who re-shaped cinema with their culture-defining works are seemingly getting some recognition recently. After Killers of the Flower Moon, Martin Scorsese’s stock is as high as ever. Steven Spielberg was recently announced to be revisiting a classic concept with him once again tackling a UFO film. Francis Ford Coppola is back in the spotlight with his ambitious passion project, Megalopolis. And George Lucas is getting honored at the Cannes Film Festival with a Palme d’Or for his contribution to cinema.

George Martin’s low fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire blew up with the premiere of HBO’s Game of Thrones, but that sudden popularity had a curious side effect. The author completely stopped releasing new books in the main continuity, focusing entirely on prequels, spin-offs, adaptations, and other projects… For 13 years now.
The Winds of Winter has been sitting on Martin’s desk for so long that most fans already gave up all hope of ever seeing that book. But that’s where they were wrong!
Grrm Shared The Winds of Winter Release Window
In the past many years, whatever George Martin was doing, he was always getting angry comments about The Winds of Winter. Many even decided that he’d opted for simply dropping ASoIaF after seeing the massive backlash the Game of Thrones’ finale caused — but apparently, the author has actually been writing all this time.

HBO’s House of the Dragon, a prequel to Game of Thrones, is about to release its second season. Not much attention was paid to House Stark in the first season of House of the Dragon, hence it is one of the Houses that fans overlooked. The arrival of one of the most well-known Starks in history will bring us to Winterfell in Season 2. However, not all Starks (or their bastards) will be getting equal screen time.
Sara Snow might’ve negligible appearance on House of the Dragon
Besides Lord Cregan Stark, fans are looking forward to seeing Sara Snow, Jacaerys’ alleged love interest from Fire & Blood. However, she might not have a lot of screen time, as writer Sara Hess recently said this to EW about her, “Expect very little.”
She added: “Our Pov is the Targaryens, and our Pov is split between King’s Landing, Dragonstone, and then when Daemon goes to Harrenhal.

The highly anticipated Star Wars series The Acolyte officially launches on Disney+ on June 4. Still, early viewers are already flocking to social media platforms to celebrate the dark, bold, and bound-to-be-divisive series. On Thursday evening, the cast and crew celebrated the show’s early arrival with a select crowd, and the first reactions to the murder mystery set in a galaxy far, far away are pouring in. The event shared the series’ first two episodes (some journos have seen the first four), and audiences have big feelings about what could be the grittiest Star Wars saga yet.
Many of the reactions to The Acolyte are overwhelmingly positive, with viewers praising the show’s stellar performances, nail-biting action, and intriguing murder mystery plot. We are just a few weeks away from the first episode of House of the Dragon Season 2. The period fantasy drama is a prequel to Game of Thrones (2011-2019). The HBO series was created by George Rr Martin and Ryan Condal and is based on Martin’s Fire and Blood book. The story takes place 200 years before the events of GoT.
House of The Dragon stars Matt Smith, Paddy Considine, Emma D’Arcy, Rhys Ifans, Olivia Cooke, Eve Best, Tom Glynn-Carny, Ewan Mitchell, and others. The first season received a tremendous reaction and ended on a high note as we saw the bloodshed and wars. The season 2 trailers have hinted that things will only get uglier for the show’s characters. With the dragons having so much power this time, it is definitely going to be a fiery season!
