Full disclosure: despite loving paranormal-focused reality TV and even having lived in what most people would describe as a haunted house, I don’t actually believe in ghosts. Sure, I think that there’s some compelling evidence out there for the existence of unexplained phenomena, but the idea of ectoplasmic seances and translucent apparitions seems rather silly to me – especially when you realize how much of modern parapsychology is borrowed from popular culture.
And yet, I find myself irresistibly drawn to these tales of the unexplained, especially when the people involved swear that they aren’t works of fiction. I may not always take their word for it, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that I can’t have fun with a good old-fashioned ghost story. With that in mind, today I’d like to share 6 spooky ghost documentaries that I think will appeal to both believers and skeptics alike.

Supernatural was the show that never seemed to end. But in 2020, the long-awaited final episode was released. Over the course of fifteen seasons, the show managed to change several genres and offer a whole galaxy of very different storylines.
Supernatural has managed to go from complex emotional drama to hilarious irony over the years, never boring its viewers.
One of the key ingredients that was part of both the drama and the comedy relief was, of course, Crowley. The character, brilliantly played by Mark Sheppard in seasons from 5 to 12, began the series as a humble crossroad demon, but thanks to intelligence, cunning and ruthlessness, he quickly reached the top of the demonic hierarchy and took the throne as the King of Hell.

Well, look at that, we’re up to my lucky number thirteenth Archie’s House of Horrors. And I can’t imagine a better title to celebrate that milestone than Archie Comics: Judgment Day. After all, who doesn’t love talking about the end of the world?
It’s no mystery why apocalyptic settings are, ironically, a fertile playground for horror stories. The stories basically write themselves, as whether we consciously admit it or not, we’re always consumed by the fear of the end of the world. We’re constantly reminded of the doomsday clock and its hands shifting ever closer to midnight. Every day the world throws a new curveball at us and gives us stark reminders that life on planet Earth is not infinite.
That’s why, perhaps, there’s some fun in creating fiction about the end of the world. It gives us the control to...

In 1972, Kolchak: The Night Stalker transfixed audiences. The movie became the highest-rated TV movie in U.S. history and spawned the cult TV series starring Darren McGavin. The TV movie was written by horror legend and novelist Richard Matheson (I Am Legend) and based on an unpublished novel by Jeff Rice, which ended up being published the following year.
Now, Bloody Disgusting has learned that Bram Stoker Award-winning editor and writer James Aquilone and Monstrous Books have acquired the print rights to Kolchak and will be releasing a limited edition of Jeff Rice’s original, cult novel. The new, deluxe hardcover edition will feature a new foreword by writer and actor David Dastmalchian (Count Crowley; Late Night with the Devil), an all-new afterword by writer and producer Rodney Barnes (Killadelphia), and a cover and spot illustrations by Russ Braun (The Boys).

The Wild West is getting a bit wilder as production on Season 1 of the upcoming drama series The Abandons has begun in Calgary, bringing together an all-star ensemble cast led by Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) and Gillian Anderson as two mothers locked in a bloody feud.
Created by Kurt Sutter, The Abandons tells the story of a group of diverse renegade families living on the fringes of society in 1850s Oregon. These lost souls band together to fight corrupt forces and do anything they can to save their land. The Western series will explore the jagged line between survival and law, the consequences of violence, and the corrosive power of secrets as this makeshift family battles to keep what’s theirs.

The hit and miss nature of both early 2000s horror and the premise are quite obvious in today’s selection. While the original Willard and its sequel Ben are known entities, it’s not like they are the heaviest of hitters in terms of horror property. In fact, Willard is Exactly the type of property that I will always argue needs a remake. Well, needs is a strong word, but it lends itself better to a remake than something as perfect as the first Halloween or Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Willard is a solid movie but underseen by today’s audience and would have maybe been more attractive to the audiences of 21 years ago who maybe grew up with the original. Sadly, that didn’t happen as it was arguably one of 2003’s biggest flops and that’s a huge bummer because not only is the movie fun with great, mostly practical effects,...

You’ll scream till you laugh. Or is that laugh till you scream? Works either way for Evil, my favorite supernatural thriller since the glory days of The X-Files and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with an even higher amusement threshold. But here’s the scariest part: It’s ending after just four seasons (the first season aired on CBS). The good news: With its delectable mix of humor and terror, Evil isn’t going out quietly. “Are we really on that level of crazy?” wonders Kristen (saucy Katja Herbers), the forensic psychologist and skeptic, during an upcoming case about possibly possessed pigs. Yes, we really are. Her team, including hunky priest David (Mike Colter) and wry tech expert Ben (Aasif Mandvi), are feeling it too. “Doesn’t it seem like these assignments are getting weirder?” Ben wonders. If they are, which is arguable, that’s how we and the show’s brilliant creators,...

Almost every episode of The Shield begins the same way, with a quick look at what previously happened on The Shield. This was neither new nor uncommon for TV in the early 2000s, when Shawn Ryan’s gritty Los Angeles cop drama premiered on FX. If you watched ’90s network hits like ER or The X-Files, you were well-acquainted with recap sequences, those tightly edited opening montages designed to jog the audience’s memory of past plot points.
But on The Shield, such reminders were less a courtesy than a necessity. Skip the opening 60 seconds of this show and you risked feeling lost over the 40 minutes that followed, because there was a good chance they would involve something you had forgotten about, something even the characters had filed away as yesterday’s news.

Master of horror Wes Craven gave our favorite genre one of its greatest icons when he introduced Freddy Krueger in 1984’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, but he had very little to do with what happened to Freddy after that. As his character’s story continued, Craven had zero creative control over the Nightmares – aside from when he co-wrote the third film and wrote and directed the seventh film – and didn’t see much money from them. As he told Fangoria, creating Freddy gave him great credibility, but not a great payday. So when Alive Films asked him to create a new horror franchise that he would have control over and a financial stake in, he jumped at the chance. Alive gave him complete creative freedom, and he gave them Shocker (Watch It Here), mixing ideas from some of his previous films, like A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Last House on the Left,...

The one fatal mistake that most TV shows make is using TV cameos gratuitously. If the cameo doesn't mean something to the audience and the characters in the show, it's pointless, and little more than a random Stan Lee Appears gag.
On the other hand, too many shows have fallen into the trap of celebrity worship with their cameos.
Having cast members gawk and gape at their celebrity crush as if to reinforce the celebrity's prestige while doing nothing for the universe we enjoy is a waste of talent.
For this list of the top TV cameos worth celebrating, we will focus on iconic cameo appearances that gave the show some unforgettable moments that made TV history.

This article contains spoilers for Outer Range season 2.
Many shows in TV history have lived and died by their mysterious nature. Ongoing storylines in classics such as The X-Files, Lost, and Fringe had fans theorizing about main characters’ fates, the creative team’s intentions, or the deeper meaning of it all. Recently, shows such as From, Severance, and Yellowjackets have the same kind of devout following, and the same overarching enigmas that keep audiences coming back for answers.
When looking back at Outer Range’s first season, it’s easy to understand why the show was picked up for a second, and why the show had to come back – to unravel some of those riddles that season one left behind. While the sophomore season might have created more questions than answers, at least some of the puzzles have been solved. But don’t worry, if you’re still feeling out of the loop,...

Outer Range Season 2 Episode 1 begins with the gravelly, subtly menacing voice of Josh Brolin, channeling his Thanos the Mad Titan persona.

One of the best, and rarest, feelings one can experience as a TV viewer is to watch a show and get the distinct feeling that its creators are getting away with something. That they're pushing buttons that someone asked them to avoid. That they're crafting imagery that's going to haunt and unsettle. That they're using a medium commonly associated with comfort and passivity to infuriate, baffle, and intrigue.
And across its four seasons, "Evil" has always felt just like that. Its first season, which aired on CBS, was a "Hannibal"-sized middle finger to decency and typical television sensibilities (that should be read as high praise). Later seasons moved to Paramount+, where the streaming wild west allowed showrunners Robert and Michelle King to really let their freak flag fly. Not every TV show can hit a home run right out of the gate. Often, they need time to settle into a routine or win over audiences, especially when they are more character-driven. Normally, things start to shake out after the pilot episode, which is where we usually see the growing pains of a show trying to figure out exactly what it is. But every once in a while, there's a show -- sometimes even one that will go on to become legitimately great -- that needs a little more hand-holding.

Fans still couldn’t get over the terrible climax episode, My Struggle IV, of the eleventh and final season of The X-Files. While the show was a pop culture phenomenon, the show’s quality descended throughout the final seasons. However, the nail in the coffin was the controversial final episode where Dana Scully and Fox Mulder realized that William was not their child but an experiment. Further to make matters worse, Scully reveals that she is pregnant.

The genre of science fiction is one of the most popular: it was back then and it is now. However it seems that there are only a few sci-fi shows that are getting enough praise nowadays, and the rest of the not less brilliant series are being sidelined.
One of such shows is definitely Farscape, created by Rockne S. O'Bannon. The series premiered in 1999 and ran up until it was canceled on its season 4 in 2003 because of being too expensive to produce.
Despite its 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Farscape remains a show that only true sci-fi fans know about. This exciting Australian-American show is about an astronaut named John Crichton. A specialist from Earth, he was thrown into a distant part of the universe and ended up as part of the crew of a fugitive alien spaceship.

There was a mic drop moment at the end of an event in New York City celebrating 30 years of “The X-Files” when series creator Chris Carter reignited the debate around Dana Scully’s pregnancy.
Towards the end of “My Struggle IV,” the series finale episode in Season 11, Scully (Gillian Anderson) informs Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) that William (Miles Robbins) is not their son. Why Has Gen Z Produced So Few Major TV Stars? Gen Z TV stars appear to be on the wane as streaming subscriptions grow. Are Zoomers destined to avoid the small screen, or is something else afoot?
Time makes fools of us all. While Gen Z is still relatively young, it's easy to assume the entertainment industry is rife with young, up-and-coming Gen Z superstars.
The reality is far different. There isn't any hard data, polling, bar graphs, or percentages that throw back the curtains on the mind of the average Gen Z.
However, we don't exactly have to guess either. Like many things that seem simple on the outside, the answer to the dearth of Gen Z representation in movies and television is multifaceted.
Of course, it is. Nothing concerning the predispositions of an entire generation is ever simple. If that were the case, we would already know the answer,...

One of the easiest ways to measure someone’s success is to count all the pop culture references that others make to them. In the case of Stephen King, they would probably hit a three-digit number, considering how many TV shows, movies, and other novel authors have been using King’s plots as an inspiration.
If you are interested to see 10 of the most popular TV shows that referred to King one way or the other, check out the list below.
Lost (2004-2010)
Heavily influenced by King's writing, Lost had no shortage of references and easter eggs to the author within the show. The most obvious are season 3 Juliet's choice of Carrie as a book club entry, and the future version of Jack reading a newspaper clipping with words like "Ted," "the Tower," and "beam" in it, all references to Stephen King's The Dark Tower.

Update: Disney has shared an image of Jeff Bridges taking a look at the Tron: Ares script, and that can be seen at the bottom of this article.
The original article follows:
The long-awaited third entry in the Tron franchise is finally in production. Six years after it was first announced that Jared Leto was in talks to star in a Tron project called Tron: Ares, the movie was all set to start filming last August – but then it had to wait out the writers and actors strikes. With those strikes over, filming is finally underway. Earlier today, we heard a quote from cast member Cameron Monaghan (Gotham), who said this film will “really push forward what can be done, from a visual perspective.” Now, we have another quote about the movie – and this is the one that every Tron fan has been waiting to hear. In 1993, the pilot episode of a science fiction series that was predicted to last no more than one season debuted on television. The show lived for nine years, amassed a powerful fandom, and was forever ingrained in popular culture. It also spawned a worthy spin-off that was undeservedly canceled and forgotten.
Fans of The X-Files don't need to be told who The Lone Gunmen are. They are a group of journalists who investigate mystical events, expose government conspiracies, and watch over the mental health of ordinary citizens.

In its own way, The Lone Gunmen, released in 2001, was ahead of its time – in the early 2000s, audiences were not yet ready for spin-offs, and the original The X-Files was still quite successful on TV at the time; viewers simply opted for the more serious and predictable Mulder and Scully.

Yellowstone star Ian Bohen has some big claims about the Paramount+ series’ final few episodes, despite potentially losing lead star Kevin Costner. The second part of the fifth and final season has yet to begin filming, with Bohen suggesting that filming will start in May. Bohen claimed that he was told the rough outlines of the final episodes. According to Bohen, Yellowstone fans are going to get one of the best finale seasons that could possibly be written.
Yellowstone is expected to have the best conclusion according to its actor
Bohen’s big claims come at a time when the show is riddled with uncertainties and behind-the-scenes issues. Fans were almost expecting a disastrous final season like Game of Thrones or Lost, but the Teen Wolf actor has just raised everyone’s hopes.

If you watched TV shows in the late 90s and early 2000s, you will remember that most popular shows did not focus on a consistent plot. Each episode told its own arc and there was no need to know the characters’ backstory.
It was a pretty smart move: a person could jump into the show at any time. However, one series changed the way the TV projects were made – Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Today, Fewer and Fewer Viewers Remember Buffy
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is Joss Whedon's cult series about a high school girl who leads a double life. During the day she studies and spends time with her friends Xander and Willow, and at night she goes out into the abandoned streets of the city and the cemetery to kill demons.
Today, only hardcore fans in their 30s seem to remember Buffy, despite the show’s cult status.

There are a number of TV series’ moments that are inscribed in cinematic history because they foretold some of the important events, which happened later, with some of them being likely to become true, while some others were totally unexpected.
Here are 5 TV series that predicted the future a little too accurately.
1. Star Trek (1966-1969) - Moon Landing
The original Star Trek is notorious for its predictions, the most remarkable of which is clearly the depiction of humanity's first landing on the moon. The 1967 episode titled Tomorrow Is Yesterday features a NASA broadcast reviewing the preparations for the game-changing moon landing. Two years later, the USA indeed became the first nation to set foot on the moon with the successful flight of Apollo 11.
2. Friends (1994 - 2004) - Facebook

Gillian Anderson has paid tribute to her starring role as FBI Special Agent Dana Scully on social media by quoting a lyric from Taylor Swift’s latest studio album, The Tortured Poets Department.
“You wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me,” Anderson wrote in an April 26 post on X. The caption ran alongside an image of Scully and Fox Mulder, played by costar David Duchovny, in their basement office.
The caption borrows from the Swift song Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” Fans have used the line on social media to mock the places where they grew up.
Anderson and Duchovny led the Fox series from 1993 to 2002, along with its reboot from 2016 to 2018.

It's no secret to any horror buff that the genre's greatest offerings aren't always defined by critical prestige. But when it comes to horror television, the uphill battle that new shows face to overcome skepticism and garner positive reviews is even steeper. This is aptly demonstrated by the TV landscape of the '90s, in which writers and directors galvanized the medium by venturing into as-yet-unexplored depths of scariness, violence, and production value. However, creators weren't always able to translate that broadening of horizons into favorable critical notes.
Sure, it was the decade of "Twin Peaks," "The X-Files," Stephen King's "It," and all the bold new offerings for which such beloved programs paved the way by evidencing audiences' appetite for serious, well-made horror TV. But it was also the decade of a vast number of critical flops, which have been either largely forgotten or marred by extremely negative reputations...

"Zoolander 2" didn't have the best debut back in 2016. The sequel to Ben Stiller's 2001 comedy classic made just $55 million worldwide on a $50 million budget. Considering movies generally need to double their budget in order for the studio to start seeing a return on investment, that isn't all that great. Such a poor box office showing was made worse by the critical response, with the film currently sitting at a dismal 22% on Rotten Tomatoes. Indeed, /Film's review criticized "Zoolander 2" for being as stupid and out of touch as Derek Zoolander himself.
There was no reason why "Zoolander 2" needed to be as bad as it was, though. The sequel reassembled the stars of the original, with Stiller joined by Owen Wilson and Will Ferrell. Like its predecessor, the film also featured multiple celebrity cameos, including one particularly distasteful turn from Benedict Cumberbatch as a non-binary character. Okay, maybe there...

Titus' face was covered upon his first introduction in Episode 2. When Michael Rapaport was revealed as the actor, viewers may have thought the character was destined for humorous involvement, but instead, Titus turned out to be a self-serving coward.

Image created by “Shutterstock.AI” X-Files fans, remember when The X-Files was so popular, they made a movie during the show’s run? As The X-Files reboot continues to draw excitement from fans, questions about David Duchovny‘s involvement in the remake persist. The actor played FBI agent Fox Mulder in the sci-fi drama alongside Gillian Anderson’s Dana Scully. The bond between the duo was the lifeblood of the show, which initially ran for nine seasons on Fox, and then revived in 2016 for another two seasons. For most of the years the show ran, it followed their characters as they investigated paranormal-related cases. After years of opposing the idea of returning to The X-Files roles, Anderson expressed in a recent interview that she’s

Brad Dourif has had an incredible acting career that stretches back more than fifty years – and back in the early days of that career, he even earned a “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” Oscar nomination for his performance in the 1975 classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Over a decade later, he started playing the role he is best known for, that of Charles Lee Ray, a.k.a. Chucky, a serial killer who uses voodoo to transfer his soul into the body of a doll. Dourif is now 74 years old, so when we hear that he has decided to retire from acting, it’s totally understandable… but while talking about his retirement, Dourif has also made sure to assure fans that his days of Chucky are not over. According to The Wrap, Pruitt Taylor-Vince has been cast as Jonathan Kent in James Gunn’s Superman. The Phantom of the Opera is sometimes considered one of the Universal Monsters. I get it. From the 1925 version that gave us one of the most infamous unmasking sequences ever courtesy of the great Lon Chaney Sr., through the Hammer iteration with Herbert Lom, all the way up to the 2004 film that gave a lot of us our intro to Gerard Butler. Speaking of that movie, its inspiration and reason for its existence was the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical that premiered in October of 1986 and has had runs all the way through as recently as 2021. 1989 was the beginning of its U.S. tour and we got not one but Two Phantom movies that year. Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge is cheesy and may just be more well known due to our friend Joe Bob featuring it on the Last Drive In recently. Here in the JoBlo Horror kitchen today...

Two years after it premiered, one of our favorite shows of 2022, “The Outer Range” returns this summer (read our review). The X-Files reboot has garnered waves of enthusiastic anticipation, but the return of Gillian Anderson’s Dana Scully remains uncertain. The American actress performed alongside David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder in the sci-fi drama widely considered the most defining role in her storied career. The series follows Mulder and Scully as they investigate unsolved cases revolving around paranormal events. Aderson’s performance as a medical doctor and FBI special agent was so impactful it inspired many young women to pursue Stem-related careers.
