Sex & Nudity
-
- A woman is bound with only her breast and crotch covered. Not much worse than a woman wearing a bikini.
- Near the end of the film, a man and a woman begin to kiss. Sex is implied, but the screen goes dark before much of anything is shown.
- Ellen Barkin's character wears a few revealing costumes (short skirts, low necklines), but there is no visible sex or nudity in this film.
Violence & Gore
-
- There's a large final shootout and several aliens are killed.
- Buckaroo kicks an alien in the leg and runs from it.
- There's a brief fight where several aliens beat up a group of men.
- A spaceship blows up in the end, and several aliens inside are killed.
- There are numerous gunfights and fatalities, but no blood or gore is shown. One character is briefly (but fatally) choked, and one alien dies after hitting his head on a rock.
Profanity
-
- Non-pious of "God." Light cursing includes the 's' word, 'h' word, and 'd' word. One character makes an obscene gesture at another.
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
-
- Ellen Barkin's character drinks alcohol and points a gun to her head in the nightclub scene. One alien smokes a pipe. There are no references to drug use.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
-
- The character of Lord John Whorfin/Emilio Lizardo might be frightening to some children, given that he's a violent and cold-blooded alien possessing a mad scientist's body. His unkempt hair, demonic eyes and prominent teeth give off a Mr Hyde vibe.
- A hysterical woman attempts to commit suicide while getting drunk. She points a handgun to her head and nearly succeeds until a waiter knocks her arm out of the way by accident, causing her to shoot the ceiling instead.
- Buckaroo Banzai is tortured by means of electric shocks, but he escapes unscathed. Ellen Barkin's character is also bound and tortured.
