Serena Williams will be the host of the 2024 Espy Awards.
ESPN announced the pick of the tennis legend as this year’s Espys host during Disney’s upfront presentation to advertisers Tuesday, with American Idol host Ryan Seacrest breaking the news on stage. The event will be held July 11.
The Espy Awards are ESPN’s annual awards show celebrating the best of sports. Last year Patrick Mahomes and LeBron James were among the big winners, and for the first time the program went without a host (due in part to the ongoing Writers Guild strike).
Williams, of course, retired from professional tennis nearly two years ago.
That being said, she has kept busy, with media being one of her top priorities. Williams inked a two-book deal with Random House Publishing last year, beginning with an “intimate” memoir.

Is Reba McEntire running a little behind Bob Hope, as an awards-show-hosting perennial… or actually a little bit ahead? It depends how you count. Because this year marks her 17th year hosting the Academy of Country Music Awards, aka the ACMs, and Hope did the Oscars 19 times, so she’s still two years from matching his record, if we compare these gigs.
However, McEntire has also hosted a rival program, the CMA Awards, five times over the years. So if we include all the times that McEntire has hosted one country awards program or another, she’s actually up to...

The future is not looking bright for Raven’s Home, which has officially been cancelled by Disney Channel after six seasons, our sister site Deadline reports.
A continuation of That’s So Raven, which aired on Disney Channel from 2003 to 2007, Raven’s Home reunited viewers with the sitcom’s titular psychic (played by Raven-Symoné), who was now the mother of twins — including a son Booker (Issac Ryan Brown), who has clairvoyant powers of his own. Set in Chicago for its first four seasons, Raven’s Home ultimately relocated back to San Francisco (aka the original setting of That’s So Raven) for the remainder of its run.

If this week’s promo is any indication, Jake Gyllenhaal is ready to take viewers on a strange trip when he returns for his third Saturday Night Live hosting gig.
The just-released clip shows Gyllenhaal rehearsing his lines for this weekend’s season finale alone in Studio 8H when he’s approached by Marcello Hernandez, who asks him to sign his SNL 2024 yearbook. Gyllenhaal obliges, but apparently takes his time finding the perfect words as a montage shows him cycling through tears, anger, epiphany, and eventual relief.
“Enjoy, papi,” Jake says as he returns the yearbook to Hernandez, who is asleep by this point.
The already off-the-wall promo ends by doubling down on the absurd, revealing the message Gyllenhaal just labored over. “B kewl!,” it reads, signed by “Jack.”

The viewers (and reviewers) have spoken, and all agree: they want more Conan
On Wednesday, HBO/Max head honcho Casey Bloys announced that Max has renewed Conan O’Brien’s return to television in Conan O’Brien Must Go for a six-episode second season.

The series, which is an offshoot of the Conan O’Brien Needs a Fan podcast, is a travel series/comedy show mash-up that sees O’Brien travel the world to meet listeners of his podcast in person. In the first season, O’Brien traveled to Norway, Thailand, Argentina, and Ireland—where he surprised listeners, immersed himself in the local culture,...

Dog toys and roving Regency-era balls. Small-artisan hand-etched mirrors and allergy medicine. “Bridgerton” has become so much more than a TV show. Heading into Season 3 of Shonda Rhimes’ massively popular period romance series, Netflix has found that viewers aren’t just invested in the love story of new leading couple Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) — they want to invest in the brand itself.
That means a fandom spending its dollars on a growing merch and events business that helps them celebrate each new season of the show, which is based on Julia Quinn’s romance novels.

Rebecca Brenneman/The CW Now, even though the two of them are seriously vibing, the clip ends before either of them can step up to the mic.
